That's why health care professionals are uniting in the state's largest health care union: SEIU-UHW. Recruitment and retention of skilled professionals is one of the biggest challenges in today's health care market. In SEIU-UHW, professionals have established new, higher pay scales and raises linked directly to market demands.

  • After forming a union with SEIU-UHW, health care professionals at Catholic Healthcare West hospitals in Sacramento negotiated average first-year raises of 16%. Raises for some professionals, whose pay had not competitively kept pace with the market demand for their skills, were as
    high as 43%.

purple arrowEmployer-Paid Family Health Care Benefits
While more employers are passing on escalating health insurance costs to employees, SEIU-UHW members have won fully employer-paid family health care coverage as well as retiree health care benefits at hospitals throughout California.

  • At Kaiser Permanente hospitals, SEIU-UHW members have health care coverage for themselves and dependents up to age 25 as well as lifetime coverage for themselves after age 65 if they retire after 55 with at least 15 years of service.

No organization has done more to ensure the retirement security of health care professionals after a lifetime of caring than SEIU-UHW. SEIU-UHW members have negotiated pensions that provide guaranteed monthly retirement income for life.
