No change is easy or simple. Personally, the hardest part was the breaking up of SEIU Local 535, which had been my local union starting in 1969, long before I worked for KP. Despite such concerns, joining UHW makes sense for our members, who'll enjoy the additional clout of being part of a much larger healthcare union. There are differences in that we are not salaried by the hour and are spread across many small clinics, but these matters will be worked out. We all want this to succeed, as it means our new unity will improve things for our professional members, for the union, for the KP Labor Management Partnership, and for our patients.
