This training program is geared for new stewards. Upon completion of our two-part Core Steward Training, stewards will have sharpened union representation and organizing skills.
Part 1: Basic Steward Training Participants will discuss the goals and strategies of unions, become familiar with the role and responsibilities of stewards, and learn skills to recruit members to be involved in union activities and to organize members around issues that are important to those who work in healthcare. All stewards are required to complete Basic Steward Training within 3 months of becoming a steward.
Part 2: Investigating and Presenting Grievances Participants will discuss the duties and rights of stewards and practice skills in understanding a contract, recognizing what is a grievance and what is not, investigating and writing a grievance, conducting a meeting with management and building support for the union. All stewards are required to successfully complete Investigating and Presenting Grievances within 12 months of becoming a steward.
Both Parts 1 & 2 are required, but they do not need to be taken in order. |
