State Assembly member, Lloyd Levine, to Meet with Healthcare Workers at HCA/West Hills Medical Center and Listen to Their Concerns About Patient Care

West Hills- This Friday, California State Assembly member Lloyd Levine will visit HCA/ West Hills Medical Center and listen to healthcare workers' concerns about unsafe staffing levels. Approximately 2000 Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Surgical Technologists, Housekeepers, Clerical workers, Operating Room Technicians, Emergency Technicians, and other healthcare providers are represented by SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West (UHW) and SEIU 121RN at West Hills Medical Center. Caregivers, whose current contract is set to expire on July 1st, are fighting for a fair contract featuring safe staffing guidelines, affordable health insurance, and better job security.

"Protecting quality patient care is a top priority for frontline caregivers at West Hills Hospital, and it's a top priority for our community.  I'm proud to stand behind patients by standing with union members in their fight for safe staffing," said State Assembly member Lloyd Levine.

Healthcare workers say that both hospitals are chronically understaffed, causing a decline in the quality of patient care. Many caregivers also say that staffing levels are set by corporate policy makers at HCA headquarters in Nashville, not by local healthcare workers themselves.
