LOS ANGELES (April 4, 2007)– Community leadrs joined healthcare workers from Olympia Medical Center this week at a candlelight vigil to bring attention to management's failure to work with frontline caregivers on policies to improve retention, wages and the recruitment of qualified staff.
Olympia Medical Center caregivers, joined by community leaders sent a spirited message to management echoed by the chants of "Be fair to those who care!" Fellow UHW members as far away as Antelope Valley joined others in the vigil and showed their solidarity through chants of "We're here for you— your fight is our fight!"
Over 300 Nurse Assistants, Respiratory Techs, Lab Assistants, Pharmacy Techs and other healthcare workers are represented by SEIU United Healthcare Workers—West (UHW) at Olympia Medical Center, which is a 204-bed acute care medical/surgical facility.
"We are determined to win competitive wages that keep us here and attract qualified caregivers so our patients get the best care possible," said Richard Saillant Engineering.
