SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West, a progressive and growing union (formerly SEIU 399 and SEIU 250), has 130,000 members in California. We are caregivers from every sector of the industry, united to win better care for our patients and better lives for our families and ourselves.

We are seeking a Community Organizer who will work with members and not-yet-union workers to bring new allies into a SEIU-UHW led coalition for quality health care, clean air, and justice in the workplace. The community organizer will also mobilize members to engage opinion makers and organizations with the power to affect key decisions important to healthcare workers. 

Responsibilities:

 Analyze surveys of SEIU-UHW members regarding their organizational affiliations and relationships. Conduct follow up surveys and meetings with workers to complete analysis of organizational affiliations and relationships.

Work with lead campaign staff to evaluate what interest key organizations have in decisions on campaign issues.

Work with lead campaign staff to develop a message for why different organizations and community leaders should share our objectives.

Work with union members to outreach to traditional and non-traditional allies around quality health care and clean air campaigns.

Develop relationships with diverse organizations and actors affected by healthcare issues.

Conduct community and allied turnout for campaign activities.

And other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 Experience as a Community Organizer or proven ability to carry on the responsibilities of the job.

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to listen actively and frame issues

Ability to assess information and evidence and deal with conflicting/changing priorities

Ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgment

Ability to work with a wide variety of multicultural and political groups

Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all division and union wide activities

Current valid driver's license, working automobile required and valid auto insurance
